Watermelon, sweet melon and honey melon — cantaloupe and honeydew by their other names. The watermelon and the sweet melon are usually UAE-grown through the hot months.

How to pick one, since with melons it is the whole game. Watermelon: a creamy yellow patch where it sat on the ground, and a deep hollow sound when you knock it. Sweet melon: smell the stem end, it should be sweet from a few centimetres away. Honey melon: skin faintly waxy rather than glossy, and a slight give at the blossom end.
