Honey Melon
About this honey melon
Honeydew melon: smooth pale skin, green-white flesh, and a gentler, cleaner sweetness than a cantaloupe. Less perfume, more refreshment.
It is the best melon of the three for a fruit salad because it does not overpower anything it sits next to, and the best for children who find cantaloupe too musky. Cut into ribbons with a peeler it makes a surprisingly good salad with cucumber and mint.
A ripe honeydew has a faintly waxy rather than glossy skin, and the blossom end gives slightly. Unlike cantaloupe it does not smell strongly even when ready, so go by feel and by weight.
